by What’s interesting to me is the combination and juxtaposition of both being an artist and business person, and loving both aspects. To me business is all about bobbing and weaving. I love interacting with people. I love collaborating. I love working on projects together. Jen Lowe
We’ve all heard about the starving artist, who is so committed to the health of her art, she denies herself financial health. In a previous post I wrote about how an artist can increase his or her financial opportunities by changing the audience 1
This post is about Jen Lowe, a remarkable artist who has busted the starving artist myth by diversifying her artistic holdings into 8 different unique abilities, serving a broad range of audiences.
- Musician: Recording artist, Song writer, Singer, Percussionist, Guitarist.
I started playing music in fourth grade in Milwaukee Wisconsin on the song flute. I always wanted to play the drums, but it wasn’t feasible because it required private lessons, so I choose the next best thing; the trombone.
Jen grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin. From her earliest recollection she wanted to play drums. Her big chance finally happened in 1985 when the band director heard Jen “fool around” on the drums, and was intrigued how someone could play the drums with no previous experience on the instrument. After she further impressed him by reading down a drum chart, she was given the opportunity to switch from Trombone to drums in the Jazz band, and has been drumming ever since.

- Banding People Together®
You want to get in shape, you go to a trainer, and trainer is going to put you in a workout program, a diet program, and trainer is also going to talk about the psychology for getting into shape. You do it and have been transformed into a brand new human. That’s what Banding People Together does. We come into a corporation, and the company says they are having trouble getting their people to collaborate successfully. The company wants to change the culture. We springboard the whole endeavor with a music event which culminates into the employees writing and performing their own unique song. This is how we will help companies retain their rock stars.
Students don’t know the difference between a W2 and 1099 return. I didn’t either when I was a kid. I gave the paper work to my dad to take care of it.

I have already written the foreword to my book; working title- Jen Lowe’s Guide to the Galaxy.”
My last question for Jen was- What’s the next chapter for Jen Lowe?
I want to be a much better Golfer. Laughter
Jen has never been afraid of a challenge. She was raised in a family that encouraged pursuing her dreams, regardless of society opinion. Being a female trombone player and then following her dream of playing the drums never seemed unusual. And Jen has always loved sports, especially hitting a golf ball. Applying the skills and aptitudes she developed in music and sports to the business world to sell her own brand as well as to eventually teach others is a testament to her tenacity and desire to become financially independent while pursuing her passion as a musician.
